I know FC hates doug, doesn’t like Farah, and pretty much most of Jalopnik. Their standards are high and demand lots of serial numbers and engine codes or they'll point their invisible Ferrari branded axe at you.

Sounds like a really shitty community. I love Ferraris but I hate Ferrari customers. I have a feeling the Mclaren forums would be much better. Every Mclaren owner I’ve met (all three of them) have been awesome people.

It’s the same problem afflicting Jalops. They can be a very enthusiastic crowd, and you know what happens when people get enthusiastic—they start to show ego, immaturity and hypocrisy.

I’m a regular at F-Chat, and often you will see a comment like this:

“You want to DIY your maintenance? Don’t be cheap; spend the right money for the right expertise, or else you will eat it at resale. If you can’t afford it, you shouldn’t be owning this car.”

Some time later, you will see the very same person ask something like,

“Which oil filter do you guys prefer? Where do you guys put the floor jack for lifting the rear end? Going to try to change the oil on my F355 tonight.”

Another infamous F-Chat problem is attacking sponsors. You don’t have to be very bright to understand that you WILL fall out of favour for making a comment like, “Why would you ever go with [Sponsor XYZ]’s exhaust headers? They are overpriced and made in an Asian child labour sweatshop.”

This happens in any car or any enthusiast community. BMWs, Hondas, you name it. The exotic car community has the same fragile egos, just bickering on rarer cars. The problem is not FerrariChat. The problem is people.

But don’t let it detract from the good stuff that is also there. Through F-Chat I met people who helped make buying and owning my car a slightly less insane process.

Comes with the territory. Ferrari is the pinnacle of aspirational brands. Aspirational brands attract a lot of testosterone and ego. The only reason McLaren has a more personable crowd is because McLaren is not yet a household name. I try not to let that distract from the fact that Ferraris are still amazing, wonderful machines.

Have you seen some of the fights on Bimmerfest? It’s amazing how low some people can go when their ego is at stake.

I don’t know for sure, but I’d guess Alain De Cadenet and his Victory by Design. That seems suitably posh.
